Book Reviews

Report to the Principals Office By: Jerry Spinelli

I think that this book was really interesting and funny. It gave many great descriptions of each character. This book was amazing and I think it is the perfect amount of pages. The author gave many unique characteristics to each character. I also found it unique because a character named Sunny Wyler vows to to not change her shirt, not wash her hair, and never even smile until she gets into the same school as her best friend, Hillary Kain. Overall I would definitely recommend this book.

Roller girl By: Victoria Jamieson

Roller girl is about a Twelve-year-old named Astrid who has always done everything with Nicole, her best friend,  so when Astrid signs up for roller derby camp, she thinks that maybe Nicole will too. But Nicole instead signs up for dance camp with a new friend and then begins the toughest summer of Astrid's life. Many bruises came along with Astrid as she learned who she really is without Nicole and what it takes to do what she wants to do and be, a strong, tough roller girl. I recommend this book for people that are looking for some conflict and many amazing pictures as well. I really enjoyed this graphic novel.

Incentive

The Incentive room was not as fun as I thought. I picked open gym. In open gym you can play basketball or volleyball. I really wanted to play volleyball but Ms. Morton only wanted to take out two volleyballs. Instead, I sat down with my friend and did nothing. We only got 30 minutes and then we had to go to the MPR. We also did nothing there. But then finally, the day was over! We were out of school for two weeks!

Chicago History

There are many parts to Chicago History but one important event I will be focusing on is the Great Chicago Fire. The Great Chicago Fire was a fire that occurred October 8th, 1871 to October 10th, 1871. Sunday to Tuesday. Just by the dates you can already notice that the fire took a while to put out.  This fire in Chicago killed up to 300 people, destroyed 17,500 buildings, and destroyed 2,000 lampposts. This was roughly 3.3 square miles of Chicago that was destroyed. The fire also left 100,000 residents homeless. There are many different beliefs on how the fire started.
